Bastards of Love make minimal electro with strong
80’s wave and NDW references. Summer Destination
is a very nice EP. It has the relaxed atmosphere of
the summer months, without losing the neccessary
musical and lyrical depth. Songs such as ‘Summer
Destination’, the New Order alike ‘Melancholic Youth’
and ‘Release’, in which Nora Below delivers some fine
soulful vocals, are sunny 80’s electroclash tracks
for the dancefloor at wave- and electroparties.
Accessible yet musically very challenging. The biggest
suprise on this sympathetic sounding EP however is
the impressive maniacal coverversion of Soft Cell’s
‘Martin’, with vocals by Darrin Huss of Psyche.
‘A-Shame’ and ‘Automatic Fun’ are more minimal
and somewhat more experimental electrowave tracks
that sometimes hint towards industrial regarding choice
of sounds, yet here the Bastards manage to process
their sense for drama in the music just as perfectly.
